We feel it’s key to be able to have an engagement portrait session with our couples prior to photographing any wedding. This is so that we may have an opportunity to get to know one another!
Your wedding day will be amazing no matter what, but making sure we’re completely comfortable beforehand with another portrait session ensures that.
You’ll also be an expert on your wedding day because you’ll already be familiar with posing and working with us! We want our couples to enjoy their time with us and not feel stressed out during their engagement portrait sessions.

Engagement Day Photo Preparation: Don’t match; coordinate.
Look for coordinated ensembles that you both adore and feel comfortable wearing. It’s not necessary to have exact color matching. Finding complementing clothing and varying the color scheme can make a big difference in the appearance of your photographs!
Graphic t-shirts, little patterns (which don’t take well in photos), and anything too shabby are discouraged. The majority of couples like to pack two sets of clothes: one that is more casual and one that is dressier. This is entirely up to you, but it can add some diversity to your pictures!

You must wear clothes that make you both feel good about yourself and that you look well, regardless of what you end up wearing.
Your happiness will be much more evident if you both wear jeans and casual tees as opposed to a stiff, form-fitting outfit that doesn’t represent who you are at all.
Try out a few different alternatives to find something that is both aesthetically pleasing and easy to move into (yes, it is possible to have all of these qualities!).

A flowing dress is a terrific way to add movement to your images as it sways and swishes in the breeze, especially if you’re looking for a documentary or visual storytelling style.
Try wearing a skirt with some weight if the wind is blowing. I adore how Mary’s mid-length dress provided a pop of color and dimension when they were moving.

Mary and Mason’s session began at Mellon Park and concluded at Studio Manor with a few flirtatious and lively photos.
We planned to switch up our location and attire a few times, so it made sense to start with the dress so she could quickly change into her next ensemble without extending their session time.
We were at the park waiting for their second outfit, so she could slip on the pants, put on the shirt, change her shoes, and we would be on our way.

I’m sure you’ll end up killing your session, regardless of your style! In the end, stay loyal to who you are and your distinct sense of style.

Get a professional makeup artist to apply your makeup.
Some brides like to test out a potential wedding day style during their engagement photo shoot. For others, it’s merely a way to practice makeup artistry before the big day.
While getting your hair and makeup done professionally is not required, it does give your pictures that extra special touch! If you’re going to do your own makeup, go for a slightly darker shade than you usually would so that it shows up in the pictures! This isn’t only for brides, grooms! Ensure that the hair on your face is neatly cut as well!
Give your ring some glimmer!
This is the ideal opportunity to clean your ring if it is recent or is overdue! When you take engagement pictures, you want it to be shining. Getting a manicure is not harmful; at the very least, make sure your nails are neat!

Are you standing in a field or a barn for your pictures? It might be best to forgo your formal outfits and adorable but useless footwear. It probably doesn’t make sense to wear cowboy boots when shooting in an urban setting. Consider the spots you’ve selected, and make sure your attire goes with the scene.
